BNP plans Irish wing to oppose immigration

RIGHT wing British Nationalist Party is agitating for the establishment of an 'Irish National Party' and believes there are already like-minded groups in existence here.

The leader of the anti-immigration lobby Nick Griffin has pencilled in a visit to Trinity College later this month.

The BNP, which grew in popularity in the UK at the last election, claims that there is a "great deal of concern" in Ireland over the issue of immigration.

Mr Griffin will speak at a controversial debate at the college entitled 'This house believes that immigration has gone too far', which has already drawn outrage from anti-racism groups.

BNP representative Simon Darby spoke to The University Times editor Ronan Burtenshaw ahead of the contentious debate and refused to rule out the idea of a BNP rally in the future.

"We are aware of the existence of a number of groups. But there simply isn't anything tangible there at the moment," he said.

"There is nothing I would like to see more than an Irish National Party representing the interests of the Irish people."

On the BNP website, Mr Darby said that the reaction to the Dublin debate was akin to a "liberal fascist assault against free speech".

The BNP has already established a strong presence in Northern Ireland but said that the idea of hosting a rally in Ireland was "another matter" that was best not confused with the debate.

The Socialist Worker Student Society is campaigning against Nick Griffin's appearance and is organising a "protest against fascism" outside the college on October 20.

And the Union of Jewish Students urged Trinity College to "deny the BNP a platform".

A representative for the Philosophical Society at TCD said that the organisation was established as "a neutral forum for discussion".

"We do not endorse the views of any of our speakers. Nick Griffin has been invited to speak solely on immigration. He is a prominent speaker on this issue," they said.

"The debate will be balanced with two guest speakers on each side of the motion."

LoveMusic HateRacism is back on Saturday 12th February at The Grand Social (formerly Pravda) Lower Liffey Street, Dublin 1. North Strand Kontra Band , Zealots and Champagne Animal are the live acts for the event with Indietronic & FeelGoodFriday Djs hitting the decks on both floors.It all kicks off at 9pm with a suggested donation of €4.

The force that is NORTH STRAND KONTRA BAND headline the night,and promise to deliver the goods.This energetic 7 piece have played LMHR gigs in the past and no better band to do so as they draw their influences from the East of Europa.Some call it Klezmer, some call it Gypsie…but we like to call it dam good.

Woody Guthrie also known as the "Dust Bowl Troubadour" due to songs inspired by Dust Bowl era, travelled the country mainly by box car from Oklahoma to California during the Depression of the 1930’s with thousands of other migrants looking for work.
Many of his songs are concerned with the conditions faced by these working class people, and inspired many of the great songwriters that came after him including Bob Dylan and Phil Ochs.He played at countless labour strikes, union meetings, migrant camps, and Communist Hollywood parties with actor, Will Geer, and wrote for Communist papers The Light and People's World.

On 3rd October 1967 Guthrie died from complications connected to Huntington's disease, a progressive genetic neurological disorder.
Love Music Hate Racism & The Sunday Roast will be donating proceeds from the gigs to the Huntington’s Association.

ENAR Ireland is supporting the co-ordination of activities linked to European Week Against Racism/International Day Against Racism in Ireland. International Day Against Racism is the 21 March. This year, European Week Against Racism takes place between 13-21 March.

Today we were alerted to a facebook group that targets what the creator Aaron Prestley calls ''Romanian Gypsies''.
Lets have a look at what Aaron Prestley has to say on her group...

''No I do not need my windscreen washed with fairy liquid and urine, served in a greasy 7UP bottle. No, I'm not giving you my parking meter money. No, pinching your baby so it crys will not make me give you money. No I don't approve of ending a days begging by jumping into an S Class Mercedes.
I have been advised to change the name of this group to "I Hate Gypsies" to remove any raciest connotations. The Romanian part of the title, tho descriptive is not fair as their home/nest is in Bulgaria. This is not anything to do with impoverished nations trying to survive, or people begging to feed their family. Anyone who actually did any reading on gypsies would know THIS IS OGRANISED CRIME. Not racial slurs.''

Not only is her spelling terrible,but her ignorance is astounding as she tries to say that Romanian people ''Nest'' in Bulgaria.
We think anyone would agree that this is racist in every sense of the word.Having ''hate'' ,''Romanian'' and ''Gypsies'' in the groups title ,it could not be clearer that this group is meant to create anger and hate towards anyone that looks to ''beg'' or ''tap'' on the street.And the fact that she brands everyone that does this with being from a certain country shows that this is clearly an attack on a specific group.

But what is more alarming is that there are over 3,000 fans of this page.

Far right plan ‘Day of Action’ Claims of 'recruitment process' getting underway in Larne.

THE FAR right has taken another step forward in its ongoing campaign to establish structures, and recruit members, in Larne and across Northern Ireland, it has been claimed.
Last Friday afternoon saw British National Party (BNP) members allegedly meeting in a Larne public house to discuss a forthcoming 'Day of Action' and what was termed 'table talk democracy.'
The so-called 'Day of Action', it is claimed, is planned to take place on a Saturday within a couple of weeks' time.
Those taking part in the event, which it has been suggested will be staged in Larne Town Centre, are to carry out leafleting and distribution of newspapers.
As readers of the Larne Gazette are aware, this will not be the first such handing out of leaflets, or other forms of party activity, in Larne.
A source told us that the party feels the need to become actively involved in local recruiting and propaganda as "they will never get anywhere in Larne unless they get further support."
It was recently reported to the Larne Gazette, by a source, that the party has an estimated "dozen or so" members in the Borough.
Friday's meeting, which is was claimed was held at 1pm that day, saw party members and supporters being invited to an "informal" gathering.
The BNP's regional organiser, local organiser and "a few others" were to attend in order to "have a drink and talk about things."
As stated, the proposed 'Day of Action' was one of the main issues on the agenda.
And, despite reports to the contrary, it has been claimed the party still wants to put up a political candidate for election in Larne, a goal the recruiting drive is designed to make possible.
“That's the way they are going to get support and see where they go from here," a source told us.
Of course, the British National Party has already made an appearance in Larne.
Party held a meeting
As reported in a pre-Christmas edition of the Larne Gazette, the party held a meeting, attended by around 40 people, in a local social club. The 4th of December meeting also saw a Larne BNP organiser present along with other members from the town.
They were joined by other members, and supporters from across the province, and were addressed by two guest speakers who had come over from England for the occasion.
Speeches dealt with topics such as immigration, recent BNP electoral successes in England, the Muslim 'threat', a perceived need to preserve 'Britishness', the 'subordinate' role women ought to occupy and the British people's supposed need for 'living space.'
As has been pointed out by different commentators, the latter phrase chillingly echoes demands for 'lebensraum' in Nazi Germany.
It is claimed the December meeting also saw cracking of racist jokes, a successful collection and a reception for the above speeches which was described as "rapturous."
And, as previously stated, this meeting involved discussion of the "recruitment process" which appears to be moving forward apace in this New Year.
December's gathering, it was later announced on the BNP's website, also saw appointment of a South-East Antrim organiser.
Furthermore, this meeting itself was billed as one of a number of forthcoming events, events which were to be staged in Larne and other areas of the province.
Obviously, the supposed 'Day of Action' fits into this planned programme.
Nor are meetings the only manifestation of BNP activity in the Larne area.
Last September a leafleting campaign was undertaken within the Craigyhill district, approximately 2,000 leaflets being distributed in the estate, a campaign which party organisers are seemingly intent upon extending to other areas of Larne.
Cause for much local heartsearching
Why Larne has been chosen as something of a base for the party, and a testing ground for its recruitment attempts, has understandably been a cause for much local heartsearching.
Of course, its efforts in Larne and across Northern Ireland follow successes in last year's European elections. That Larne could be a fertile recruiting area has been highlighted, but also contested, by local representatives.
Speaking to the Larne Gazette following the December meeting, DUP Mayor of Larne Cllr Bobby McKee slammed far right activities in the Borough.
He accused them of "simply hyping people's emotions up."
However, despite his clearly expressed "disappointment" at the fact that any local support has been given to the far right at all, he felt this was the work of only a "few individuals."
Awareness of, and vigilance towards, such activity was nevertheless necessary, he believed.
SDLP candidate for East Antrim Justin McCamphill was another who spoke out about BNP efforts to establish themselves and expand in this part of Northern Ireland.
His comments reflected the growing concern of those outside Larne regarding the party's continuing actions here.
Mr McCamphill described the BNP as a "fascist party", one "promoting an evil agenda" and "telling outright lies" about immigration.
Speaking to those who had allegedly made their premises available for the party's meeting in December, he said the people responsible ought to "think again before they allow the BNP to return."
The candidate said the first meeting place may have been booked under a different name but the party's website "clearly shows BNP paraphernalia in their premises."
He thought the venue owners would be "disgusted that these people came to Larne" and used the kind of language it is claimed they did.
With further activities allegedly planned for Larne, it appears such feelings and growing unease will continue.
"Have nothing to do with it"
The Mayor of Larne, Cllr Bobby McKee, who totally condemned the December meeting and all activity of the far right, has appealed to the people of Larne not to get involved with any forthcoming BNP action.
Speaking to the Larne Gazette on Monday, he stated firmly, "I would say to the local people involved not to have anything to do with it.
“I would ask them to reflect back.
“As I've said, you have to keep one eye on the past but also keep one eye on the future, otherwise you're blind.
“The future for Northern Ireland, and Great Britain, is inclusiveness, working together.
“To target people because of their background is totally outdated and utterly unacceptable.
“Something we need to get educated about is the fact that we all have to live together. We have to work as a team.
“I also have to say I have great difficulty with people getting their emotions worked up and then having to pay the penalty for their actions, but the people who organise this behind closed doors seem immune to the price of it."
The Mayor concluded by issuing his unequivocal appeal to people to shun the far right and instead work for the good of their community, all their community:
“My appeal, and I would make an appeal to the people of Larne and County Antrim, is to try and look to the future here and see what positive contribution they can make to society."

Cork Choons Music Research Project - Seeking musicians!

I am looking for participants for a new study on music-making in Cork, which focuses on currently active bands and musicians in the Cork area. I'm looking at all aspects of music-making in Cork - economic, social, cultural etc. - and as the first part of this project I am conducting an online survey of active musicians in the Cork area. I hope to survey as many musicians as possible in Cork and follow this with interviews with participating musicians, but also events organisers, journalists, promoters, venue owners, producers, etc. You can see more information on this project at http://www.myspace.com/cor..kchoons, where you can also 'friend' the project.
This is part of a study for my PhD research in the Institute of Popular Music Studies, University of Liverpool. Hopefully, this research will culminate in a book on music-making in Cork.

The Lord Mayor of Dublin, Cllr Emer Costello has kindly agreed to host a forum for all international students (incl. Erasmus Students) studying in the Dublin area.

Sheila Power, Director of the Irish Council for International Students (ICOS), will discuss the current proposed changes to immigration procedures for students. This will be followed by a workshop for students during which there will be an opportunity to discuss issues on Immigration, Support Services in College, the GNIB, Current Work Permits and much more.

This event is free but places are limited. All students must register for the event by emailing their name and college to Linda Kelly at equality@usi.ie. Closing time for registration is 12pm on Friday the 22nd of January.

In June last year, 20 Roma families, including many small children, were forced to move out of the Village area of Belfast following an organised campaign against them.
Although those charged in connection with the string of attacks and the distribution of racist leaflets – which allegedly originated with the British Combat 18 far right group – have been teenagers, the campaign is believed to have been supported by former loyalism paramilitaries.
Racist incidents in Europe and Britain are often connected to far right groups and their more respectable political organisations have undoubtedly in recent years been making electoral gains.
No openly racist or fascistic organisation has garnered serious electoral support in either part of Ireland, however.
But, in recent years, the country’s changing social make-up has seen right-wing anti-immigrant elements attempting to take political advantage.
Such groups revolved around former Northern Irish IRA prisoner Gerry McGeough, Justin Barrett of Youth Defence and the Irish People’s Party.
The Immigration Control Platform which put up candidates in elections failed to secure many votes at the polls.

ASYLUM application numbers are down by over a third, but the cost of processing the claims is growing, according to new figures released by Fine Gael.

The number of asylum applications received by the Department of Justice in 2009 fell by 35% when compared with 2008. But funding for the asylum and immigration service during the same period was up by 16%.

Fine Gael Immigration and Integration spokesman Denis Naughten said, "We need a determined approach to deal with the present mess and I’m calling on the minister for justice to prioritise this area in the interests of the taxpayer. By streamlining the existing asylum system, treating people with dignity and in a timely manner, we could save the taxpayer a small fortune."

Mr Naughten said, "The additional costs associated with asylum accommodation in 2009 ran at €50,000 a day more than originally projected; this is on top of a cost over-run in 2008 of €40,000 a day".

Fine Gael is recommending three changes to asylum policy to speed up claims processing:

* The Government should request High Court judges to sit longer in the vacation period to clear the backlog of applications.

* Contracts for centres should be reviewed. Asylum accommodation centres are contracted over an average three-year period with a fixed price. Fine Gael has called for annual reviews.

* The asylum process can be Streamlined. There are 14,000 ‘leave to remain’ applicants in the country which Justice Minister Dermot Ahern describes as having ‘unfounded’ claims for asylum. Based on the processing time of just over 2,000 applications a year, it will take seven years to process these claims.
Last year more civil servants were appointed to the Irish Naturalisation and Immigration Service, in order to speed up the process, the slowness of which has been criticised by both the United Nations and European Union.

Immigrants get a voice - New advisory council for integration will comprise a range of national
IRELAND IS to get its first all-immigrant advisory body on integration issues, Metro Éireann can reveal.
The new Government-backed committee will comprise a range of nationalities, all of whom will try to help Ireland avoid the race and cultural tensions that have surfaced in France and the UK.
Known as the Ministerial Council on Integration, the idea was first mooted by then minister Conor Lenihan in May 2008 during the launch of the Government’s integration strategy. But the economic downturn meant that this and several key initiatives were abandoned.
However, a spokesperson for current Integration Minister John Curran this week confirmed to Metro Éireann that the ministerial council is being resurrected.
“This is the appropriate way in which to obtain representative views from immigrant communities as opposed to engaging immigrant staff members or consultants,” stated the spokesperson, adding that Minister Curran had “no plans” to appoint an advisor “as he does not consider this necessary or appropriate in the present [economic] circumstances”.
Immigrants broadly welcomed the concept of a migrant-comprised body, with Saljuqi Nasruddin of the Afghan Community in Ireland commenting: “I think it’s a good idea to have a committee for migrants, to show their problems and find ways towards integrating in Irish society.”
Meanwhile, the Office of the Minister for Integration has confirmed that just two of its 29 staff are of immigrant backgrounds.
A spokesperson pointed out that most of the office’s staff are officials from the Departments of Justice and Education, and “as such, they are assigned to the office by these departments”. The office itself does not engage in recruitment, she said.
Last week, Minister Curran welcomed the Government’s decision to retain the office in its budget proposal, and the provision of just under €5.5m.
He said Government expenditure clearly had to be reduced and pointed out that the area of integration this year had seen the withdrawal of financial support for the National Consultative Committee on Racism and Interculturalism (NCCRI), which had resulted in a saving of about €500,000 a year.
“With the allocation for next year it will be possible to continue to implement policy in the area, for example, supporting efforts to promote participation of migrants in sporting activities, local authorities with projects in their areas as well as a number of bodies which work with migrants.
Minister Curren added: “I will be robustly reviewing all expenditure but my focus will be on supporting existing schemes that clearly meet the Government’s objectives, while also being mindful of the need to respond to emerging trends.”

Families terrified after spate of racially-motivated attack

THE "vindictive" and sustained attacks on a non-national family in Clondalkin, which included a petrol bomb attack on their house, have shocked a councillor who visited with them on December 3.
Following up upon a query he raised with South Dublin County Council's Joint Policing Committee, People Before Profit Cllr Gino Kenny spoke to the family who have been harassed for over six months.
He said: "When I was out canvassing in the summer I came across two cases and, with one case in particular, I was shocked by how bad it was''

"It was very vindictive and carried out just because of (the colour of their skin).
"They had windows smashed, someone tried to burn out their car and a petrol bomb was thrown through a window and left the carpet burned. It was lucky that no-one was seriously harmed."
Cllr Kenny added: "I dropped by on Thursday and the family were still shaken. By all accounts the attacks have not stopped."

The attacks were reported to the gardaí and are one of seven reported instances of racially motivated criminal damage to homes of 'minority groups' in South West Dublin this year.
A similar incident occurred in June of this year when a Congolese family were relocated to another house in South Dublin by the council from the Lindisfarne area, where they had been subject to damage to their home and car.
Inspector McKenna from Clondalkin Garda Station says the first thing a person should do if they are the subject of a racially motivated attack is to contact the gardaí, followed by local representatives such as councillors and TDs.
He said: "We can only act on such cases if they are reported; that is the most important thing.
"Instances reported to us are low. If it was an issue in the area it would be something we would highlight."
Lyuba Moore from the Clondalkin Intercultural Centre explains that the centre runs a Garda Assistance Clinic for residents every second Thursday.
She said: "If there are any incidents (of attacks) people can come along to the clinics and talk to the gardaí in confidence.
"Sometimes if people do not come forward it could be because of fear or because they are unaware of the clinics."
The next clinic will take place at the centre, on 15 Tower Road in the village, from 2pm to 3pm on Thursday, December 10.

Pop rock trio 'Mugger Dave' hail from Galway City, Ireland and were formed in January 2007.

The band comprises of Simon Noble (Lead Vocals / Guitar), Seán Herriott (Bass / Backing Vocals) & Níall Curran (Drums). The group's collective experience shows in the tightness of their performance, with all three members knowing exactly what they want to create: a hard-hitting rock band, with catchy, feel-good melodies reminiscent of the Kinks, underlined by driving basslines and a heavy, no-nonsense drumbeat.

Their energetic live shows are driven by the powerhouse rhythm section, overlayed with unique melodies and imaginative harmonies.
Simon describes his lyrics as being "an infectious blend of coy coyness and social satire".

Dawn Landes

Raised in the fertile musical fields of Branson, Missouri and Louisville, Kentucky, Dawn came to New York City in 1999 and did a cannonball into the music scene. While holding down several jobs to pay the rent, she abandoned university (NYU) and began to intern at some of the best studios in the city. "I had very little experience", she says. "I was just really, really curious. Dangerously curious in the studio... I picked heros like Tchad Blake and Brian Wilson and took a flying leap."

What started as a job getting coffee for engineers has blossomed into a truly enviable resume; among others she has worked with Phillip Glass, Ryan Adams, Hem, Joseph Arthur, The Earlies and Josh Ritter in the studio. Working late into the night, and often sleeping at the same studios she was interning in, Dawn began producing and recording her own songs after hours. "I wanted to get the sounds in my head onto tape exactly as I heard them. And that's not an easy thing, there are a lot of sounds in there!"

After meeting the band Hem in the studio, Dawn joined them on the road as an 8th band member (vocals and glockenspeil) and opening act. Her performing career started to gain speed. Her first full-length, "dawn's music" was released in France in 2005, followed by extensive touring in Europe and two other European releases; "234" a 7-song EP released in the UK and finally "Fireproof", released worldwide in 2007. Since then her music has become the stuff of whispers and internet buzz, and her touring schedule has put her on the road with artists such as Feist, Jose Gonzales, Midlake, Suzanne Vega, Martha Wainright, The Swell Season......(the list goes on) At times solo, at times with a revolving cast of musical guests, her shows have the guileless and vibrant quality of a work of art in constant creation.

Ka Tet

Ka tet was originally formed by Tommy and Kyle as a two piece group in 2007 after collaborating together in a previous original band. They began experimenting with some encouraging acoustic tracks, but a heavier sound soon began to emerge which created the need for a stronger percussion section within the band. While studying music in Dublin, the lads were re-united with old friend Ronan Connaughton, who had been drumming in an Original band for many years previous. And so, Ka tet was re-born as the full electric outfit it is today.

Once Ka tet completed their stimulating, self-produced, 4 track demo, they turned their attention to live performances, playing 37 dates so far in 2009, appearing in most major venues around Ireland, including Cyprus Avenue (Cork), The Academy (Dublin) and Roisin Dubh (Galway). The compelling power of tracks like 'Shere Khan' combined with the Soulful tones of 'Bob N' Charlie' and 'Free Love', has created a energetic live performance that has gripped audiences throughout the country and will continue to do so.

In 2007, as the new album The Bosphorus was being recorded, part of the wider project (Flesh and Blood) of cross cultural interconnectivity with - in Joyce's words - “our eastern brothers/sisters”, Joyce & Sonic Gypsies, a 10 piece band, focused on live performances here and abroad including performances in Vicar St and Whelan’s.

A unique and inspiring experience listening to the Western / Middle-Eastern rhythmic collaboration … While the philosophy of the songs is truly “Western” they get their soul and energy from the unmistakable and very distinctive Eastern & Southern rhythms…Is there such a thing? Dermot Kennedy is an 18 year-old singer/songwriter from Dublin. He's been playing the guitar to accompany his singing since he was 13. A couple of years ago, as he became more serious about music, he moved away from covering other artists and began to write his own music.

His main influences include Glen Hansard, David Gray and American band Bon Iver to name a few. He recently started a pure-music degree out in NUI Maynooth. Despite his young age, he has plenty of experience gigging in Dublin, in venues such as The Button Factory, Eamonn Doran's and loves heading down to The Bankers Inn on Trinity St. for the acoustic nights on a Tuesday.
He hopes to keep gigging as much as he can, building up a profile and hopes his music can take him somewhere good...

Close down the BNP's Nothern Ireland Call Centre

Please find below a letter being circulated by the Anti Racism Network in relation to the BNP call centre in Dundonald. The ARN are calling on people to support a campaign to have the BNP call centre shut down.

We are asking people to add their signatures (and organisations/trade unions etc if appropriate). We are also asking people to forward the letter to everyone in their address books. The aim is to gather as much support as possible with the idea of launching a broad based campaign of political leaders, community and trade union leaders and anti racism activists committed to having the centre shut down.

SHUT DOWN THE BNP CALL CENTRE

WE THE UNDERSIGNED are horrified that the BNP’s national call centre is located in Carrowreagh Business Centre in Dundonald. The call centre is playing a central role in organizing recruitment and fundraising for the BNP and distributing their racist literature. We pledge our support for a campaign to have the call centre closed down.

The last thing that Belfast needs is the presence of an organisation notorious for spreading racist lies whose members boast a string of convictions for race hate crimes. Wherever the BNP organises, immigrants and members of black and minority ethnic communities come under attack.

In the past year NI has witnessed the poisonous effects of racism, with over 1000 attacks being reported to the PSNI - a figure many believe to be only a fraction of the true number. The attacks on Roma families have shown most visibly where this can lead, over one hundred people including many children fleeing their homes in fear of their lives. More recently, two Indian families living in Portadown had a number of windows in their homes smashed in racist attacks. In this context a BNP call centre in Dundonald is extremely alarming.

The BNP is a deeply vicious organization. Racism, prejudice, anti women attitudes and homophobia permeates every aspect of the BNP. They call for the “repatriation” of all non whites - despite the fact that there are many non white people who are British. They refer to the holocaust as the “holohoax”. Their leader refers to gay people as being repulsive. Another leading member denies that rape exists saying publicly that forcing a woman to have sex against her will is not a crime because it is like forcing her to eat chocolate cake.

The reality is that the BNP is a fascist organisation built on advancing their political goals through violence and lies. Their leader has a conviction for inciting racial hatred, as do many other members. An undercover journalist at a BNP “family day” held recently in England revealed how children were encouraged to burn gollywogs on a bonfire while the adults discussed where they would find “real” ones to burn and boasted of committing racist attacks in their own local areas. The Belfast Telegraph who reported the presence of the centre in Dundonald refers to the party as being fascist, stating “The British National Party is peddling its vile fascist propaganda from a secret Belfast bunker”.

The true nature of the BNP is why so many people are opposed to their presence and do everything in their power to shut them down. Recently it was revealed that the BNP have been unable to secure office premises anywhere in East Lancashire. Reports confirm that time and time again landlords pulled out of deals for premises when they discovered who their new tenants would be. During the recent election campaign postal staff demanded their right to use a conscience clause in their contract to refuse to deliver their election literature. Many trade unions expel members who are found to be linked to the BNP. Every police force in the UK bans its members from joining the group.

We are absolutely opposed to the BNP. We are calling on political leaders, community and trade union leaders, anti racism activists and all those in our society concerned about this alarming development to take a stand and organise together to shut down these hate mongers.

Hey all, we've been quiet for a while but wanted to let you know we're planning an event for Dun Laoghaire in September.We're working on the line up right now,and promise to mix live music with electronic in order to cater to every taste.

Apart from that, we are looking for people to form their own LMHR collectives across the country,and put on their own gigs.There was even a suggestion of having some kind of Student Society at some stage.

We're looking for ideas and are happy to take those ideas and run with them.

Love Music Hate Racism Ireland will be launching their Website and awareness campaign with an event at The Twisted Pepper, Dublin on 23rd July 2009. This event will run in three separate rooms incorporating live music, comedy, graffiti art, photography, and DJ’s .

In a recent statement, spokesperson Kurt Nikolaisen said ’’there are elements of our society that continue to promote anger by the scapegoating and targeting immigrants including migrant workers, refugees, asylum seekers or even students, we need to work to expose these myths and challenge racist ideas’’

Love Music Hate Racism Ireland is not just an organization. It’s a movement. We need people from all walks of life to get involved. We want everyone to play a part in LMHR no matter how big or how small. We want to hear what you have to say, and address issues you find important. Issues that your community, neighbors, friends and family find important where you live. We aim to have a network of support for each and every person involved in LMHR across the county and we encourage people to make suggestions, put on their own events and start their own groups with help from this network’’
